Today, Apple released the Snow Leopard Graphics Update 1.0.
it should fix a lot of gaming issues specifically in Team Fortress 2 and Portal.
We’ll be testing it later to find out if this is true.
My iMac’s Specifications: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 ghz, 4 gig 800mhz RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro (256 VRAM) All these games were played in windowed mode at 1024×640 or 1280×800
After much testing (playing games on my mac) I discovered that this update works wonders. So let’s go down the list:
Half-Life 2/ Portal/ Team Fortress 2/ Counter-Strike: Source/ Day of Defeat Source: Huge frame rate boost, I was able to actually reach a cap of frames per second at 297 where I used to get half that. Also lighting seems… better?
Killing Floor: I haven’t found a way to display a numerical value of the frames per second in Killing Floor yet but I did notice an increase of FPS during intense ammounts of fighting compared to before.
Bioshock: Definite increase in the FPS of the game. I can have my shaders up higher without dropping to 20-30 frames per second. (THough 20-30 gives bioshock that old movie feel which is kind of nice)
Call of Duty 2: I can now have extreme effects on without a significant loss of frames per second. (There’s still some)
Call of Duty 4: Didn’t notice an increase but I’m sure a new iMac would have seen a boost if it was having issues.
Halo Demo: Actually Halo Demo seemed to suffer a bit in performance. Yes, fps is boosted when there’s no action in the scene but Silent cartographer stayed at around 30-40 fps when fighting. Maybe someday I’ll get the Intel version. I still have the PPC demo…
Well that’s all I got for you now.
Peace
