Video Color Editing: a Halo-Reach story.

So I’ve been playing with Color. A super awesome program that comes with Final Cut Studio. FCP is what the best of the best use to edit video.

Anyway here’s what I have:

The left image is my edited footage and the right is the original un-touched version.

The point of this is to create the mood of the series. Editing the color is something rarely done in machinima and if it is done it’s done poorly.

Perhaps this will aid in virility.

Halo 3D

After seeing this technique being used on a Machinima.com video I quickly understood the simplicity behind how to shoot it.

Simply shoot the same thing twice but from a slight strafed angle and line of the shots. Pretty easy. only took a couple hours to make the video.

Tobuscus made another LITERAL trailer. This one’s pretty epic, too.

It really is one of those things we never would have thought of but is freaking brilliant. Props, Tobuscus. Props

Mac Screen Recording: Screenflow

I’ve received many questions all revolving around the same missing piece of knowledge on the internet:

How do you record a game on a mac?!?!??!!11?

Well, back a couple years ago we were trying to discover the answer to this very question. The way Smooth Few Films did it was they had their PC output an HD video signal to a Mac with an HD Kona Capture Card. This method was too complicated and too expensive for us. So we browsed the world of Screencasting software.

For those of you that do not know, a screencast is a play on words. It’s a Podcast that shows you how to do something on a computer using footage directly from the screen.

We have compiled a loverly list of Screencast software in the world that we have tested in our search:

iShowu (Original and HD PRO), Fraps, Screenflow, ScreenMimic, SnapsProX, and Quicktime X.

We couldn’t use Fraps because it was windows only but we did try it on a windows computer and It had the best FPS (Frames per Second) of any of these options but was, again, Windows only.

iShowu is what we used early on but it tended to be laggy and stupid to use.

All the others (except screenflow) were also laggy and stupid to use.

So we settled on Screenflow, which was a surprisingly good program. Granted, I wish to death that it would let you select a specific area on your screen and had functions to ignore all other computer processes besides the OpenGL window of the game we want to record but all in all it’s the best. It also has a Built-in video editor that looks and behaves much like the program Motion found in Final Cut Studio Pro.

Here’s a link: Screenflow

Happy Recording.
